Anticipation

So...remember when I told you that my freesia bulbs sprouted?
I thought it was a bad idea to plant all of the bulbs at once. I, in a 'continuous blooms all winter would be great!' way, thought it would be better to wait.

So I planted them all!
It may be dreary after they all wilt and die,
but it will be one spectacular scented show when they all bloom!

(now I just need to stake them before they all fall over)

Life and Death in a Garden

Pathetically enough, I'm still mouring the end of vacation. It was so amazing to be so close to the lake. And to be able to walk barefoot out the front door, into dirt and not concrete? Heavenly.

So began another evening stroll around Worcester. To my favorite road with the lovely garden outside...only to find that the peonies are dying. Needless to say, my heart was a bit more bummed.

But that's life in a garden. New growth was shooting up all over, & the air was scented with dirt, humidity and flowers. Which, is one of the best scents ever...I wonder if someone has made that a perfume or a candle? Hmmm...

That's all today, blooming loves.

Four Hours Away From Home

fool in love that I am, this is what I packed.

the view from my desk

means of transportation

the guys about to adventure in a styrofoam & duct tape sailboat

middle of the lake

coming back to port...I needed proof

an evening swim

almost there

A week away with the family, I can't even remember the last time everyone was able to stay a whole week! I hope that I can balance boredom and productivity in a way that lets this week pass by slowly but not painful. I also know (hope) that the seven of us will get along (not kill each other) after so long in a charming (tiny) log cabin.

All joking aside, Maine is great. The further we drove, as the towns became more spread out, I felt the stress evaporating like steam from a kettle. I felt my heart start to hum with excitement and ideas. Not big ideas, just innocent small step ideas.

No matter how much I love being young in the city, for me there's nothing that compares to the smells & sounds of nature.

Sending some Maine-iac Fireflies your way!

A Victorian Love Affair in the 21st Century

“First you need only look: Notice and honor the radiance of Everything about you... Play in this universe. Tend All these shining things around you: The smallest plant, the creatures and objects in your care. Be gentle and nurture. Listen...”

Pruning

My favorite thing about having plants, is to prune them. Seriously. It's so relaxing.
Also, a few fun advantages (I'll elaborate later on):
  • They look nice and some smell pretty
  • Some Prevent mold or remove toxins from air
  • So Many Craft Projects!
  • Increase humidity & air quality
  • Talent-free Shadow Puppets
  • Stress Reducing!
  • And, as Jersey demonstrates, excellent for games of hide and seek!

Until next time,
Go bury an acorn!

Rain & An Old Factory

nature reclaiming
raindrops on ivy
creeping up the walls
a view from above
It was gloomy and wet here today, I might have let it get to me if not for stumbling upon a new restaurant, NU Cafe. Excellent food, great beer and a cool ambiance? What's better than that?!

What else have the bricks of this old factory held besides rain drenched ivy?

"The rain began again. It fell heavily, easily, with no meaning or intention
but the fulfillment of its own nature, which was to fall and fall."

Ranunculus: A Flower Lover's Dream

A hundred crepe paper petals suspended on thick wildly waving stems. These lovely beasts sure had a mind of their own!

So here we are, Hello & Welcome!

I guess we'll just dive in!

This wicker love seat was rescued by yours truly from the scariest of places for unwanted/ no longer used things: Grandma's Barn Attic. It's a place of wonder for sure.

As the story goes, sometime in the late '40's my grandparents were driving around on a back road when they noticed this Victorian beauty. Dumped on the side of the road. DUMPED. Curlicues and all.
So being the young couple with dreams in their hearts and love in their heads they picked it up.

I'm not sure how long it was in the attic, I do remember it being on the porch in the summer, but it was surely in need of some love. So into the bath it went!

Jersey is on the left, Cali on the right.

And here's Cali lounging once it reached it's home in the bay window. You can barely see the greenery that makes up the bay window garden, those are worthy of their own post entirely.
