Day 23

"Morning Conversations"
tree light reflection
The only pastel painting that I did,
The only pastel painting that I did,
that didn't look like a five year old did it.

Day 20
I love the feeling of this picture
Messy & cozy.
It could almost be a page from an I Spy book.
Ha! My whole house is like that.
A hollogram man, A home for a feathered pet, Paisley & Flowers.
And Awesome snow.

Cambridge by Rainy Night
An old friend from high school got a job in Boston and threw a party in her new place. It was cold and rainy outside, and everyone forgot their raincoats. Inside it was hot and muggy; with a back porch that perched at such a perilous angle we were all convinced it would come crashing down by the end of the night. So my pictures aren't so great (this is your warning) just imagine you've had enough that the cold raindrops don't really bother you anymore.

The Smell of Summer
As hard I try, I can't believe it's really Memorial Day weekend. Weeks pass by, yet they feel like days. I'm still stuck in mid April!
Yet, the two Christmas cactus, who wanted nothing to do with us in winter, when we needed them most, have started to bloom. Profusely!
Well, who am I to argue with nature?
I bought these peonies, unopened, yesterday while at the market. We sidetracked to a park bench to watch the world go by, which they didn't like too much. By the time we meandered home and put them in water, they opened to have a dash of fuchia in the center. Joyous surprise!
The blue glass is something I got at the Antique shop years ago. There were four of these blue and two more in green glass, and even though they were way out of my college student budget I didn't hesitate to scoop them up...who needs car insurance anyways? They were, at one point part of a window; the edges still have a chalky hardened adhesive on them.
You can see the two a bit better here

Curtains are up! They may have taken me over a year, and may or may not be crooked, but they are up! Picture me wobling around between two bar stools with an old fashioned crank hand drill teetering in my nervous grip, basically the very thing your mother would kill you if she caught you doing.
The curtains are a $ 3 thrift store find, and I love how the lace changes along the bottom to a curvy row of roses. The glass 'pins' or curtain tiebacks are opalescent rosettes and look identical to those produced by the Sandwich Glass Company. Although I doubt they are due to the fact they were $ 10 each, they are still gorgeous and catch the light in magical ways.

Ranunculus: A Flower Lover's Dream
A hundred crepe paper petals suspended on thick wildly waving stems. These lovely beasts sure had a mind of their own!

An Unexpected Find
Just when you think it's another dull Monday...a dull Monday where you've put off doing laundry a bit too long...and winter, even thought it's been mild, is still winter and still dragging on...
Imagine, laundry basket on hip, prying open the elevator doors to the basement. Expecting, well, expecting a boring cement basement and finding....the exact opposite
A Free Couch. A free Antique couch, in good shape. And to add that we don't have a couch (even though we've been here for well over a year) that's obviously a sign...right?
I did a quick sniff, followed by a quick bounce, threw the laundry in the machine and flew back up six floors. Knowing that while Alex was washing dishes, I had quite possibly found the greatest unexpected free couch ever.

Old Cards On A Bathroom Wall
It's just plain wierd to grow up. Things you take for granted, people you depend on to be in your life, can disapear. Things change and shift and continue to do so. Some for the better, some for the worse, that's just how it is. My grandmother has reached the point where she can't anymore leave her home, so family events have since been anchored there for gatherings. In any rate, I took these pictures from off the walls of her bathroom. I've never given them too much thought, except they've been there as long as I can remember, and I don't know any of the people who sent them.
It seemed the perfect grandma mix of eccentric cat lady.....a practical approach to decorating...and an appropriate level of sentimentality for a tough old English lady.
Old standbys...English flowers
In a range of seasons
The cat that looks like he has his tail in his mouth & the cross eyed Siamese
A Birthday Wish from long ago, and Greetings from someone named Devon
Kittens, birds, a handrail and a clue above the light switch.
And here, almost 10 years later, this card just aching to tell it's tale. Ironically, this is one of the few cards that has the back message still attatched. I don't know why, if you were going through the effort of taping old cards to the walls of your bathroom, you would first cut off the message. Someday, these cards will be removed from the walls, and they, like my Grandmother, will take their secrets with them. I suppose that only adds to the mystery, and, mystery, swarms around my Grandmother like bees around Old Garden roses.

For My Alexander
Home, what a beautiful thing! I listened to this song about 80 times yesterday while giving my dining room a scrubbing I doubt it's seen since 1935. As My Alexander lay sick in bed in the other room, this song seemed especially appropriate. As grateful as I am to live in the place I do now, as enchanted as I am by dark woodwork, french doors, and things that take up space; it really doesn't mean anything. I could give it all up in a heartbeat, because my real home is in him; his heart, his soul.
A lovely hazy video, perfect for this June heat wave.
